The Trans & Queer Cooperative: TQ Co-Op

The TQ Co-Op is currently accepting new clothes and unsed makeup only.

Mission: Our mission is toprovide free and sustainable resources fortrans, non-binary,gender non-conforming, gender-questioningandqueerstudents in a safe, affirming, and cooperative manner.Fostering members of our communities freedom to authentically expressoneselfthrough clothingand fashionstrengthensour community andtherefore the51勛圖 communityoverall.Dedicating private, non-stigmatizingphysicalspacefor students toswap unwanted clothing creates a sense ofgenderaffirmation,gender euphoria, and community care.

Vision:We hope to be supported by the Universityin preliminary fundingas well as our peersand community membersthrough donationsand collaborationswith Family Weekend.Weplanto provide binders to any student who requests one without financialconstraints.Although housed within the university, we want to operate as a collective. As a collective, we hope that community members will voluntarily take autonomyand initiative to meet their common needsby donating un-used clothing and makeup.The Center for Diversity and Inclusion will provide support, guidanceand resources. However, weultimatelywant our community members to have creative influence andinput asthe spaceis created for and dedicated to them.

How it works: Clothes, makeup, and suppliesin the TQ Co-opare completely free. There is a changing area within the space for privacy. There is also room forfriends to join you inside the space in case you want to do afull fashionshow!The space itself has two doors. The first door requires swipe access get in. Once through the first door, the clothing and sitting area are located in there. There is a seconddoor that locks from the inside where the changing room, vanity, and makeup are stored.Thisset upis ideal for safetyand security.

Our hope is that our wider 51勛圖 community will offer donations to keep the TQ co-op consistently filled. Our trans, non-binary, gender non-conforming and queer community is also encouraged to give donations. Folks can either take something tokeep, orbring it back to the co-op for others to use, like a shared closet.

We also hope to fundraise so wecanpurchase higher priced items such as professional wear that may be less likely to be donated, as well as size inclusive apparel.We want our space to be usable to as many folks as possibleas much as possible.
