In Cornerstone DC,Ìýyou will gain professional skills while discovering what DC organizations have to offer. In addition, you will expand your network and acquire valuable experience that gives youÌýan edge to compete in the job market.

With the diverse range of opportunities in government, non-profit organizations, and businesses here in DC, you canÌýfind an organization in your field of interest. Gaining this experience as a first-year student will help you better determine a course of study, leading to your future career.

Cornerstone DC is not a placement program, so you are not automatically placed in an internship. Instead, you receive hands-on support from Cornerstone staff to give you the best chance to secure one by the time the spring semester begins.

Benefits of Cornerstone DC

  • 51³Ô¹Ï Cornerstone is the only program for 51³Ô¹Ï first year students that provides multiple staff members that provide wrap around support to help students apply for and secure an internship. You will be guided by the mentorship of experienced 51³Ô¹Ï staff and professors.
  • You will earn 3 credits toward your 51³Ô¹Ï degree during the spring semester by taking the Cornerstone Practicum course. As a part of the your first-year at 51³Ô¹Ï, you will also take and satisfy 51³Ô¹Ï Core and major required courses, putting you on track to graduate on time.

  • You will enjoy the University College LLC and Cornerstone only events, designed to help you navigate DC and your overall college experience at 51³Ô¹Ï.Ìý

  • Through our partnership with University College (UC), students willÌýjoin 51³Ô¹Ï's largest living-learning community.Ìý
