DC Reads is an education advocacy program which places over 100 51³Ô¹Ï undergraduate and graduate students a semester within 7 community-based organizations in DC public schools supporting K-8th, high school, and adult learners.
Tutoring and mentoring are at the center of the DC Reads experience. We aim to facilitate the development of 51³Ô¹Ï students as Education Advocates in communities starting at the local level in Washington, D.C.
If you are interested in becoming an Education Advocate, either as a volunteer or a federal work study student, applications open at the beginning of the Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters. Students can apply using the GivePulse registration, and will be interviewed and placed at the community partner that best fits your interests and schedule. New Education Advocates will be required to complete a background check to work with our community learners.

Complete the DC Reads New Education Advocate Application on GivePulse. After you apply, our office will reach out to schedule an interview.

Before you start at your site, you must complete all new Education Advocate training. There will be in-person and asynchronous sessions at the beginning of every semester.
Complete a DCPS background check. Should you be selected, the DC Reads Team will provide more details.
